MINO moves into the final stages of JW Aluminum’s Cold Rolling Mill Modernization: pre-assembling, testing and shipment preparation underway

MINO is proud to announce the successful completion of the design/manufacturing phase and the start of the pre-assembly and inspection process for the equipment comprised in the modernization project of JW Aluminum’s Cold Rolling Mill. All manufactured components are currently being pre-assembled and thoroughly inspected at MINO’s workshop before final packing and shipment. With the upgraded equipment nearing completion, this milestone represents a significant step toward enhancing productivity, safety, and product quality at JW Aluminum’s facility.

Project’s completion highlights

The modernization project, aimed at reducing manual interventions and implementing advanced safety features, has successfully achieved completion of the design/manufacturing phase.

The following key equipment is now ready for dispatch:

  • Exit Equipment: state-of-the-art exit equipment designed to streamline operations and minimize manual handling.
  • Spray Bars: advanced fully automatic spray bars to ensure optimal zone cooling and process control.
  • BFI Shapemeter Roll: new BFI shapemeter roll for precise measurement and control of strip shape.
  • Compact Side Trimmer and Scrap Chopper: modern Side Trimmer and Scrap Chopper systems to enhance edge quality and material utilization yet minimizing downtimes.
  • Induction Edge System: A new Induction Edge System to optimize edge uniformity, thereby increasing strip quality and ability to roll at higher speeds.
  • D-Type Balancing Blocks and AGC Cylinders: new D-Type Balancing Blocks and Automatic Gauge Control (AGC) cylinders to refine rolling accuracy and process consistency.
  • Ultra-slim wedge Pass Line Adjustment: an ultra-slim wedge Pass Line Adjustment mechanism for more effective operation during roll-change and rolling.
  • Valve Stands and High-pressure Hydraulic Unit: upgraded Valve Stands and High-pressure Hydraulic Unit to support the new equipment’s performance.
  • CPC on the Payoff Reel: constant Pass-line Control (CPC) on the Payoff Reel to maintain consistent strip tension and alignment.
  • Safety Barriers: comprehensive safety barriers throughout the line to ensure operator’s safety maintaining industry-leading safety standards.

Electrical and Automation upgrades

In addition to mechanical enhancements, significant electrical and automation upgrades are in progress:

  • Drive Cabinets: new drive cabinets installed to enhance control, accuracy and reliability.
  • AGC and AFC Control Systems: upgraded systems for heightened Automatic Gauge and Flatness Control.
  • Electrical Equipment in a cooled container: all key electrical equipment has been installed in a dedicated, temperature-controlled container to reduce the installation time and ensure optimal operating conditions.
  • Redundancy Systems: a built-in Redundancy System has been incorporated to guarantee continuous, reliable operation and minimize downtime.

This latest Contract marks a significant further milestone in the ongoing partnership between MINO and JW Aluminum.

Such a successful partnership started back in 2018 with the project for the new MINO Hot Tandem Mill installed in line with a Hazelett Twin Belt Caster using the Hazelett® Twin-belt Continuous Casting Process. The subject continuous Casting & Rolling Line has been successfully commissioned in 2020.
